Eager to keep the ball rolling after two utterly brilliant weeks of action, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team tackled the Grand Prix of Germany earlier today. The YZ450FM riders had a turbulent weekend on the rugged circuit, but there was still podium joy at the eleventh event of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship.
Riding a wave of momentum after such an amazing win seven days before, Seewer attacked Teutschenthal from the moment that the Grand Prix of Germany started. Starting fourth in moto one, thanks to the power in his YZ450FM, he was one the few riders to make progress, as he charged into third at the finish. The second moto was arguably his best performance thus far this year. Seewer charged into the early lead, taking his first holeshot of the season, and dominated en route to the moto victory. 3-1 scores put him second in the overall classification and helped him move into the same ranking in the championship standings.
For Glenn Coldenhoff, the German fixture was a difficult outing. Poor starts made life quite difficult on such a one-lined track. ‘259’ was classified in tenth in moto one after a very impressive effort from start to finish. The second moto was fairly similar to the first, unfortunately, as a mediocre start made it quite difficult on such a tricky surface. Eighth was the ranking that he took in the moto, which put him in ninth in the overall classification.
Unfortunately, Maxime Renaux crashed hard in the qualifying heat and sustained four fractured vertebrae. Renaux has returned home for further evaluation; updates on his condition will be published in due course.
Following three consecutive weeks of Grands Prix, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP will reload ahead of the twelfth round of the current term. The Grand Prix of Indonesia will host that event on June 25/26.
Jeremy Seewer: “In the first moto today, I was a little bit frustrated. I couldn’t get Pauls [Jonass]. I tried a few times but could not quite close the gap. The second race, I knew I needed a good start and managed to pull the holeshot. That was my first of the season! I managed to put in one of my best rides of the season with a good rhythm. I felt amazing on my bike and my fitness is good. Tim [Gajser] was strong all weekend, topping every session except for the second moto, so for me that feels good and now we have to keep going.”
Glenn Coldenhoff: “It was a really tough weekend. I did not find my flow at all; I felt the track was pretty sketchy, but no excuses. My starts were also off today and it’s pretty hard to fight back. Here it is more like follow the leader. I made a pass in the second race, but I am still really disappointed. It’s not where I should be, but what can I say? It just was not my weekend.”
