Jeremy Seewer rebounds well at Semarang Created: 2018-07-08

The Wilvo Yamaha MXGP squad were a little lighter when the thirteenth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Asia, got underway this past weekend. Shaun Simpson battled an infection all week and, despite the use of antibiotics, his condition did not improve. The decision was then made that it would be best for him to return to Belgium and get back to one hundred percent.

Jeremy Seewer was flying the flag for the Wilvo Yamaha MXGP team, with that in mind, and certainly did not disappoint on day one. Seewer got off to a superb start in the qualifying race on Saturday, almost took the holeshot and immediately slotted into the fight for the lead. A race-long battle that thrilled the 47,000 fans took place beneath the beating sun and he refused to give in. Third was the position that was eventually secured at the chequered flag and just four measly seconds separated him from the eventual race winner. It was a brilliant start to the weekend.

Unfortunately, Jeremy Seewer did not make it as far as turn six in moto one. Another rider cut across him on the big uphill triple during the chaotic first lap, which caused a horrific crash. Seewer got up unscathed, however, and quickly turned his attention to the second moto. Another great start left him in fourth at the end of the opening lap in moto two and the battle was on at that point. One small mistake caused him to drop to fifth, but he still held on for his second top-five moto finish of the season. Eleventh overall was the position that he secured.

The Grand Prix contingent will have some time to recover from the Grand Prix of Asia, as the next round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will be run in two weeks in the Czech Republic. Jeremy Seewer still sits eighth in the championship standings heading into that event.

Jeremy Seewer: “It was a positive weekend. I was third yesterday, but I had a big crash in the first race when a rider came across on a big triple. Luckily I saved it, but then I hit a wall really hard and destroyed my bike. I was not hurt, but my race was over. I was really happy to come back in the second moto with some decent speed. I was fourth all of the race, but had one silly crash and finished fifth. I am angry at myself for that, but I am happy to have still finished fifth and be unhurt after that really crazy first moto crash.”
